Prominent Urdu and Balochi poet and writer Ata Shad was born on November 13, 1939 in Sangani Sarkich, Makran. Atta Shad's real name is Muhammad Ishaq - After graduating from Punjab University in 1962, he first joined Radio Pakistan and then in 1969, Balochistan's Public Relations Department as an Information Officer. In 1973, he was appointed as the director of the Balochistan Arts Council and rose to the rank of secretary. His Urdu poetry collections include Sangab and Barfag, Balochi poetry collections include Ship Sahara Nadeem, Roach Gur and Gachin and his research books include Urdu Balochi Dictionary, Balochi Folk Song and Balochi Nama. The Government of Pakistan awarded him the Presidential Medal for Excellence and the Star of Distinction. On February 13, 1997, Atta Shad died in Quetta.
